The short answer: A small CNC lathe can bring repeatability to parts that are tedious to turn by hand. The machine still needs a stable bench, proper workholding and a clear programming workflow.

Know the work envelope and the workpiece
The DL-210 is designed for shafts, bushings, spacers, fittings and threaded parts. The FAQ lists an 80 mm standard chuck and 18 mm bore, while the Pro uses a larger chuck and 32 mm bore. The upgrade does not increase axis travel. Actual usable length depends on chuck, jaws and tooling.
Power is not the only reason to choose Pro
The FAQ says the standard 800W spindle can cut a wide range of materials, including 304 stainless with suitable tooling and conservative settings. The 1,200W option offers more headroom for frequent demanding cuts. Consider your usual stock diameter and material rather than selecting the top configuration by default.
BackerGlow’s take
The DL-210 can be a useful step up when the same shafts, bushings or threaded parts need consistent repetition. It is still a machine-shop commitment: a heavy lathe needs a prepared bench, stock, tooling, coolant management and someone who can program and inspect parts. We would compare the complete setup with a manual lathe for occasional work or a local job shop for low-volume parts. The Pro spindle and larger bore matter only when the workpiece diameter and cut frequency actually call for them; they do not add axis travel.
Plan the shop around the machine
At over 100 kg, the DL-210 needs a stable, level bench and room for maintenance. The coolant spray requires an external compressor and cutting fluid; CAM software is extra. The creator lists sea freight in December 2026 and delivery estimates in January or February 2027, subject to change.
What should you ask before backing?
- Send a representative drawing and ask for a finished part with measured tolerances and cycle time.
- Confirm chuck, through-bore, axis travel and usable length for your stock and tooling.
- Verify voltage, coolant, compressor, bench and floor-loading requirements for the delivered configuration.
- Get written details for freight, customs, installation, training, warranty and regional parts support.
Frequently asked questions
Does the 1200W upgrade make larger parts?
No. The creator FAQ says the Pro increases the spindle bore and changes the chuck but does not increase axis travel.
Is CAM included?
No. The creator says a CAM license is not included; programs can also be entered or edited on the controller.
Our verdict: who should consider it?
We would consider the DL-210 for a maker or small shop with a recurring round-part workload and room for safe operation. We would wait if there is no plan for CAM, workholding, training and service. A lower pledge tier is not automatically the lower total-cost option once tooling and facilities are included.
What crowdfunding risks remain?
BackerGlow has not run the machine. Precision, noise, rigidity, training, service and delivery are not independently verified. Confirm workholding, power, bench capacity, compressor needs, tooling, shipping, taxes and the current reward price.
